More Than A Library
Vulcan Helps Rebuild a Community Hub
After Hurricane Helene roared through the Valdosta, Georgia, area in 2024, it left behind widespread damage, heavy rainfall and flooding. Among the buildings impacted was the Willis L. Miller Library, where part of the building collapsed, the roof caved in and floodwaters inundated the entire facility, forcing the community’s main library branch to close.
Now, Vulcan Steel Structures is helping bring this important community resource back. Vulcan is supplying two metal buildings totaling almost 7,000 square feet: a 3,842-square-foot building that will provide new space for the library’s expansion and a 3,153-square-foot building that will replace the storm-damaged portion of the original facility.
For Valdosta, reopening the library means much more than restoring a place to check out books. The library provides access to computers and the internet, space for students to study and complete schoolwork, resources for job seekers and community programs and services for residents of all ages. It is a place to learn, connect and access resources that are an important part of everyday life.
Headquartered in nearby Adel, Georgia, Vulcan is especially proud to play a role in restoring a resource that serves so many people in the surrounding community.
Why Metal? Durability + Speed
The Willis L. Miller Library project highlights two key advantages of metal building systems: durability and speed. Engineered to perform in demanding conditions and designed for efficient construction, metal buildings can be especially well suited for projects where resilience and getting back in service quickly matter.
